We are proud to announce the winners of this year’s competition!

Emilia Thomas, a junior at Santa Barbara High, won first place.

Ellie Gleason, a freshman at Dos Pueblos High in Goleta, won second place.

Luming Cao, a senior from Laguna Blanca High School in Santa Barbara won third place.

Larson Ladinig, a senior and Olivia Doman, a sophomore, both from Santa Ynez Valley High were awarded Honorable Mentions. 

Congratulations on all who participated! It was a joy to have this competition despite the complications due to Covid-19 and we look forward to another year of the High School Design Competition!

We are excited to present the 2020 High School Design Competition in Santa Barbara County! 

Sharpen your pencils and get your calculators ready! 

The High School Design Competition will be kicking off this year on Tuesday, March 10th at 7:30 am at the Santa Ynez Union High School or Direct Relief, Santa Barbara.

KDA Gallery Opening & Holiday Party!

The Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara is pleased to present you the annual Kids Draw Architecture Gallery Opening & Holiday Party on Saturday, November 24, 2019, from 2 – 4 PM.

This year KDA held their sketch sessions at the Alameda Park Bandstand and Santa Barbara Middle School.

The exhibition will feature a collection of drawings from KDA’s 2019 program showcasing a representative cross-section of illustrations from all age groups and drawing abilities and will be on display until January 4, 2020.

Events like this exemplify how the Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara continues their mission of educating the public on the built environment. So please come join us to celebrate and congratulate our current calendar artists and support this vibrant educational program!

Summer Camps 2019

Discover and Explore Your Child’s Talent in Architecture and the Built Environment

A variety of one-week day camps for children from grades 2 through 9. 

By Kidz Engineering 101, Inc., supported by the Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara, with a shared mission to enrich our community awareness of the built environment by encouraging children to learn architecture.

Classes are held in our beautiful backyard shaded with trees and aired with a cool breeze from the ocean, fenced in safely and away from traffic.

Level 1- Architecture Engineering and Design/Build with Real Building Material
August 7-11 1:00-4:30 Age 9-15 Fee $245
Make a mini architectural model with wood framing, truss, concrete and seismic tie-down applying structural design concepts. Practice geometry in building a staircase. Learn the various careers involved in designing and building a new home. (see Interior Design, separate class)

Level 2- Architectural Renovation and Addition, Electrical and Landscape Design (For Previous Students) Using Real Building Material
August 7-11 8:30-12:00 Age 9-15 Fee $235
Just like in real life, dream homes are always a work in progress. You always want to upgrade, renovate or sometimes have an extreme make over. Due to popular demand, this class was designed for students who have attended previous classes and want to come back for more.

New Lesson: Basic residential electrical layout and wiring diagram. Create lamps and chandelier to light up your house and install real light circuits all attached to the main control panel.

Addition and Renovation: You will be rewarded with additional piece of land to landscape and perhaps build a dog house, a gazebo, outdoor furniture, playground or simply add a room.

Interior and Furniture Design
August 7-11 10:30 – 12:00 Age 9-15 Fee:$120
Learn the basics of Interior and Furniture Design and build your dream home.
Access our unique and fine material specially picked to make your project look real.
Build furniture using leather, wood, varnish, elegant fabric and a load of other unique and fine material specially picked to make your dream house look like a model home designed by a professional interior designer, and that would be you! This makes a good supplement to your new house or extreme makeover.
